.sg is Singapore's country-code domain. It was added to the root zone on 19 October 1988. It's the main address for Singapore businesses, government agencies and organisations, and many international companies use it for their Southeast Asia operations.
The Singapore Network Information Centre (SGNIC) manages .sg. SGNIC is a company under Singapore's Infocomm Media Development Authority. It runs the registry, writes the rules and appoints the registrars who sell names.
Anyone can apply for a direct .sg domain, such as brand.sg. Applicants outside Singapore must appoint a local administrative contact who meets SGNIC's requirements.
This contact serves as your liaison with the registry. SGNIC verifies the identities of domain holders and contacts through VerifiedID@SG, and may suspend a domain if verification is not completed.
The second-level endings are stricter. .com.sg is for businesses registered in Singapore, or in the process of registering, and foreign companies can qualify through a local agent. .org.sg is for registered organisations, .edu.sg for schools and universities and .gov.sg for the government, while .net.sg and .per.sg have their own rules.
Singapore companies, banks, shops, government services, schools and individuals all use .sg. .com.sg has long been the standard address for local businesses, while the shorter .sg is popular with start-ups and regional brands.
Having a local contact isn't the same as being a Singapore company, so a .sg name alone doesn't show where a business is registered.

How .sg second-level domains work
A second-level domain sits one step below .sg: instead of example.sg, a name is registered as example.com.sg, with com marking out one branch of the extension. We track 5 second-level extensions under .sg and 3 of them have registrar prices so far.
The .sg extension is managed by Singapore Network Information Centre (SGNIC) Pte Ltd. Who can register under each second level, and on what terms, is decided at the registry rather than by the registrar, and a few zones may be administered separately, so confirm eligibility with your registrar before buying.
A name under any of them has three labels — your name, the second level, then sg — and DNS works exactly as for any other domain. Registration data is published through the .sg WHOIS server, whois.sgnic.sg, and over RDAP at https://rdap.sgnic.sg/rdap. The .sg registry supports DNSSEC, so zones under its second levels can be signed and validated end to end.
