Transfer terms for .gg
The transfer prices in the table are what registrars list. Whether a transfer of a .gg domain is free or paid, and whether it adds registration time, is not confirmed here and depends on the extension and the registrar.
Bottom line
Atom, at $121.70 for 3 years, is the lowest.
Island Networks has operated the .gg registry since it was created. Nigel Roberts and Laurie Brown founded the company in August 1996 to run .gg and .je, and IANA delegated .gg to Island Networks on August 7, 1996. The same operator has managed it for 30 years.
The .gg domain is Guernsey’s country-code top-level domain. Unlike standard gTLDs, it is not governed by ICANN’s gTLD Registry Agreement, and ICANN’s Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy does not apply to .gg disputes. Island Networks sets its own registry policies and operates its own dispute-resolution process. Guernsey remains the territory associated with the domain. Registration is open globally with no residency requirement. Registrants must give correct, current identity information and may not use .gg domains for illegal purposes.
Island Networks sets its own registration terms and fees, and has published a 50% wholesale reduction for domains registered through local Island-based registrars. Due to a lack of current data, a comparison of .gg wholesale prices with other ccTLDs is not provided.
.gg is popular overseas because "gg" is common shorthand within gamers for "good game" and has therefore become favored by gaming and esports projects, even though it is still regarded as Guernsey's country code domain.
The main distinction between .gg and gaming-related extensions such as .io, .co, .tv, and .me is that Google currently classifies those extensions as generic ccTLDs, but not .gg. Therefore, Google may interpret .gg as indicating a website’s focus on Guernsey, along with other factors such as language, local content, links, and hreflang annotations.
How .gg second-level domains work
A second-level domain sits one step below .gg: instead of example.gg, a name is registered as example.co.gg, with co marking out one branch of the extension. We track 3 second-level extensions under .gg and 3 of them have registrar prices so far.
The .gg extension is managed by Island Networks Ltd. Who can register under each second level, and on what terms, is decided at the registry rather than by the registrar, and a few zones may be administered separately, so confirm eligibility with your registrar before buying.
A name under any of them has three labels — your name, the second level, then gg — and DNS works exactly as for any other domain. Registration data is published through the .gg WHOIS server, whois.gg. The .gg registry supports DNSSEC, so zones under its second levels can be signed and validated end to end.
