Bottom line

.pl is Poland's country-code domain. It was added to the root zone on 30 July 1990. It's one of the biggest country codes in Central Europe and the default address for Polish businesses, public services and individuals.
NASK, the Research and Academic Computer Network, is a national research institute overseen by the Polish government. It manages the .pl domain registry and operates CERT Polska, the national cybersecurity response team. NASK collaborates with partner registrars to offer domain names to the public.
Anyone can register a .pl domain name. Residency in Poland or ownership of a Polish company is not required, and individuals or businesses abroad may register through NASK’s partners. Identity information is required. The .gov.pl domain is managed separately and reserved for authorised public institutions.
As well as direct .pl names, Poland has a large set of second-level endings. Some describe the type of site, like .com.pl, .org.pl, .net.pl, .info.pl and .biz.pl. Others are named after cities and regions, like .waw.pl for Warsaw and .krakow.pl for Kraków. Most are open in the same way as .pl.
.pl supports Polish letters such as ą, ę, ł, ó, ś and ż, so names can be written the way they're spelt in Polish. Many businesses register both the Polish spelling and a plain version so customers can find them either way.
Polish companies, online shops, media, government services and personal sites all use .pl. Polish shoppers strongly prefer it for local websites.

How .pl second-level domains work
A second-level domain sits one step below .pl: instead of example.pl, a name is registered as example.biz.pl, with biz marking out one branch of the extension. We track 153 second-level extensions under .pl and 152 of them have registrar prices so far.
The .pl extension is managed by Research and Academic Computer Network. Who can register under each second level, and on what terms, is decided at the registry rather than by the registrar, and a few zones may be administered separately, so confirm eligibility with your registrar before buying.
A name under any of them has three labels — your name, the second level, then pl — and DNS works exactly as for any other domain. Registration data is published through the .pl WHOIS server, whois.dns.pl, and over RDAP at https://rdap.dns.pl. The .pl registry supports DNSSEC, so zones under its second levels can be signed and validated end to end.
