Bottom line
Keeping .no for 3 years is cheapest at Dynadot ($25.02).
.no is Norway's country-code domain. It was added to the root zone on 17 March 1987. It's one of the strictest country codes in Europe, because you need a real Norwegian presence to hold one.
Norid AS manages .no. Norid is based in Trondheim and is owned by Sikt, a Norwegian government agency for education and research services. Norid runs the registry under Norwegian regulations and works through registrars with agreements.
The rules are clear. Organisations must have a Norwegian organisation number and be listed in Norway's central register of legal entities. Individuals must be at least 18 and registered in Norway's National Population Register with a Norwegian identity number.
All holders must have a Norwegian postal address. Foreign companies cannot register a .no domain solely based on sales to Norwegian customers; they must establish a registered Norwegian company or branch.
Norid also limits how many names one holder can have. An organisation can hold up to 100 .no names, and a person can hold up to five. This stops people from collecting large numbers of names to resell.
For a long time, .no was mainly for organisations, and private individuals had to use .priv.no. Since June 2014, individuals can register directly under .no.
Norwegian businesses, public bodies, local councils, schools and individuals all use .no. There are also second-level endings like .com.no and .priv.no, and many based on Norwegian towns and regions. Because every holder has passed a Norwegian identity check, a .no address says a lot about who's behind it.
