Transfer terms for .id
The transfer prices in the table are what registrars list. Whether a transfer of a .id domain is free or paid, and whether it adds registration time, is not confirmed here and depends on the extension and the registrar.
Bottom line
Hostinger, at $44.97 for 3 years, is the lowest.
.id is Indonesia's country-code domain. It was added to the root zone on 27 February 1993. For most of its history, Indonesians could only register under endings like .co.id and .or.id. Since 17 August 2014, Indonesia's Independence Day, you can also register directly under .id.
PANDI, the Indonesian Internet Domain Name Manager, runs .id. It's a non-profit association formed by Indonesia's internet community together with the government, and IANA formally made it the official manager in 2013. PANDI writes the rules, runs the registry and accredits registrars.
Direct .id names are open to government bodies, businesses, organisations, communities, and individuals who can prove identity with an ID card or passport, and you don't need to be in Indonesia. Category endings are stricter and require documents. .co.id is for Indonesian businesses, .or.id for organisations, .ac.id for universities, .sch.id for schools, .go.id for government and .mil.id for the military.
There are also .biz.id for small businesses, .my.id and .web.id for personal use and .desa.id for villages. Getting a direct .id name doesn't mean you can register under these categories.
Indonesian businesses, government agencies, schools, communities and individuals all use .id. Start-ups and apps also favour short, direct names, partly because "ID" reads as "identity" in English. A .co.id address carries more weight locally, because the holder had to prove it's an Indonesian business.

How .id second-level domains work
A second-level domain sits one step below .id: instead of example.id, a name is registered as example.co.id, with co marking out one branch of the extension. We track 15 second-level extensions under .id and 5 of them have registrar prices so far.
The .id extension is managed by Perkumpulan Pengelola Nama Domain Internet Indonesia (PANDI). Who can register under each second level, and on what terms, is decided at the registry rather than by the registrar, and a few zones may be administered separately, so confirm eligibility with your registrar before buying.
A name under any of them has three labels — your name, the second level, then id — and DNS works exactly as for any other domain. Registration data is published through the .id WHOIS server, whois.id, and over RDAP at https://rdap.pandi.id/rdap. The .id registry supports DNSSEC, so zones under its second levels can be signed and validated end to end.
