.dk is Denmark's country-code domain. It was added to the root zone on 14 July 1987. Most Danish businesses, public services and many individuals have a .dk address.
The official manager is Dansk Internet Forum (DIFO), a Danish association. DIFO owns the company that runs the registry, Punktum dk A/S, formerly known as DK Hostmaster. Punktum dk runs .dk under Danish law, which treats the national domain as a public resource.
You don't need to be Danish or live in Denmark to register a .dk name. What matters is that you can verify your identity. Danish residents are checked against the national population register.
People abroad go through a risk-based check and may be asked for documents. If you don't complete a check when asked, the domain can be suspended.
Punktum dk is also changing how it manages .dk names. In the past you could manage your name directly with the registry. From 1 July 2026, you can register new .dk names only through a registrar, and names are registered and renewed in one-year terms.
People who manage their names directly have until 30 June 2028 to move them to a registrar. These changes concern how names are managed, not who can register them.
Danish companies, government services, schools, sports clubs and personal sites all use .dk, and international brands use it for their Danish shops. Disputes over .dk names go to the Danish Domain Complaints Board, an independent body.
