Bottom line
Over 3 years, Dynadot is the cheapest way to own .cz, at $26.52.
.cz is the country-code domain of the Czech Republic. It was added to the root zone on 13 January 1993, just days after Czechoslovakia split into two countries. Slovakia got its own .sk, and the old .cs code for Czechoslovakia was retired.
CZ.NIC manages .cz. It's an association of Czech internet companies and organisations, founded in 1998 and based in Prague. Besides running the registry, CZ.NIC is known for its technical work.
Its labs build open-source software used around the world, including the Knot DNS server and the Turris home routers, and it runs the Czech national computer security team.
Anyone can register a .cz name. You don't need to be Czech or live in the Czech Republic; people and companies abroad can register through any accredited registrar. You must give valid contact details, and you're responsible for how the name is used. Some names are reserved or protected by law.
.cz was also one of the first country codes to adopt DNSSEC, a security technology that protects visitors from fake DNS answers, and a large share of .cz names use it.
Czech businesses, public bodies, schools, media and individuals all use .cz. Czech internet users tend to prefer it for local websites, and international companies use it for their Czech-language sites. If someone registers a name that matches your trademark, you can bring disputes to the Czech Arbitration Court.
