IP address lookup
Ownership and network range for any IPv4 or IPv6 address, read live from the regional internet registry.
Frequently asked questions
What does this tool actually tell me about an IP address?
Who it's registered to, the network block (CIDR range) it belongs to, and which regional registry manages that block. It doesn't give you a precise physical location — that's a different kind of lookup.
Does this show exactly where an IP address is located?
No, only its registry region at most. Precise city-level geolocation uses separate databases this tool doesn't query — look for a dedicated geolocation tool if that's what you need.
What's the difference between WHOIS and RDAP for IP lookups?
WHOIS returns loosely-formatted text that varies by registry. RDAP returns the same structured data in a consistent format everywhere. This tool uses RDAP so the ownership and range data comes back clean regardless of which registry holds it.
Does this work for IPv6 addresses, or just IPv4?
Both. IPv6 is looked up the same way — same registries, same protocol, just a longer address format.
What is a regional internet registry, and why are there five?
The organization responsible for allocating IP blocks in a part of the world — ARIN (North America), RIPE (Europe), APNIC (Asia-Pacific), LACNIC (Latin America), and AFRINIC (Africa). An IP's registry tells you which region it was originally allocated to.
